Film for kids

ayadinaGiven the latest events in Lebanon, we had to close for 3 days. We now restarted as of Monday but we do remark that our kids are very stressed. So the choir teacher prepared a film for her class. With some popcorn and pepsi they were all done :) Thanks Joelle

General Assembly

Last Saturday Ayadina held its yearly General Assembly. This year the bylaws were modified since we expand the medical section. It was good to welcome new members and to see others back. Maitre Maha Barakat instructed the members about the legal questions and the event was followed by a lunch.

World Day of Prayer and Ayadina’s role

World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women of many traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer each year, and who, in many countries, have a continuing relationship in prayer and service.  This year women of Guyana prepared the services and in Lebanon Ayadina was chosen to be the local NGO to donate to during the prayer services, both at the NEST (Near East School of Theology) and the Greek-Orthodox church of St. Mary’s.

It is a movement symbolized by an annual day of celebration – the first Friday of March – to which all people are welcome.

It is a movement which brings together women of various races, cultures and traditions in closer fellowship, understanding and action throughout the year.

Hot meal for Senior Citizens

Yesterday we had our first monthly hot meal for senior citizens. Mr. and Mrs. Hani Al Sharif hosted the event and a tasty “sayyadiye” was served with “mo3ajanat”, salad and fruit. Before lunch Dr. Helene Abyad, pulmonary specialist, gave a medical conference about Asthma and its causes, treatment and prevention.

Conference about Drugs by SKOUN NGO

Last Saturday, Ms. Chantal Chedid, clinical psychologist and currently working with the NGO SKOUN, was so kind to give a conference to the parents about drugs and its dangers. About 35 people attended the very well documented conference. We do thank Ms. Chedid for her commitment, because normally it was planned that IC students would help out with this conference but because of the unsafe situation, the students could not make it from Hamra to Nabaa and Ms. Chedid volunteered to come alone.

We hope to be able to give a conference of this kind to our children and youth, who are the people concerned.

2008 and restarting our programs

It has been quite some time ago that we did not update you, our apologies. We started again with all our activities, meaning our activities concerning the elderly and the children. We already celebrated a collective birthday party and restarted with the classes for our children on January 7. Two activities were postponed because of the unstable situation but we learned to adopt the following rule: whenever there is an official closure, we remain open :)  This means that the center is open, our children can come and if the teachers concerned do not live too far away, they usually come. If, however, they cannot make it, we try to find a substitute teacher for that particular day.

Eid Mubarak

The Ayadina Family wishes you and your beloved ones Eid Adha mubarak and a very Merry Christmas and peaceful 2008 :)

Christmas Dinner for elderly

Yesterday night we had a very special evening, we welcomed 40 elderly for a Christmas dinner. Jamil mundos animated the evening and our children sang for them as you can see. The menu was offered by Mrs. Jamileh Haddad and Dr. and Mrs. Najjar. Many volunteers came and helped us in serving the dinner and being of assitance to the elderly. Of course Santa Claus passed by and offered a gift to each person…Tonight we have another group of 50 persons. We also welcome  those who gave conferences during the year. You can see Mrs. elizabeth Batal, the responsible for our elderly programs playing the dirbaki…
