Fun at Ayadina

Today was a busy day…our senior citizens made their own “ftiré” with “homayda”, put them in the oven and ate them with taste. Even our men participated in the activity. At the same time it was an exercise for them. Mrs. Liza Batal also gave them gym exercises.

Workshop

On October 26 Ayadina’s teachers and some volunteers attended a workshop given by Dr. antoine Khabbaz who is helping in setting up a counseling center at Ayadina. We feel ourselves lucky to have this opportunity and all participants were eager in learning about different types of abuse. We closed the workshop with a delicious lunch prepared as usual by Nuha :)

Donation and starting classes

Mr. Imad Abou Jaoude from the Pontifical Mission visited Ayadina on September 18 and was very interested in our children’s programs. The donation its Director Mr. Esam Bishara made, made it possible for us to purchase some of our wish list items, being:

three CD recorders, 2 filing cabinets, one LCD projector, one flip chart, six drawing boards, one board eraser, and 4 colored markers.

We are delighted because the abovementioned items will facilitaite and enhance instruction in our fine arts program.

And we started our classes this week. This year’s novelty is guitar. we have a class of 7 students.

Here some pictures of the first week:

As you can see, Mrs. Mary El Halaby teaches piano to beginners and Ms. Mirna Shahoud English to adults.

To be continued….

Dr. Ramzi and vital signs monitor

As we mentioned before, Dr. Ramzi Hajjar, Geriatrist, was so kind to give 2 lectures at Ayadina to our senior citizens. The second time he cam was on Monday 29 September. He then had brought his vital signs monitor with him and saw many of our elderly with his own way of kindness and professionialism. He then wanted to donate this monitor to an NGO since ayadina does not have a general practician, treating elderly, so we looked in the neighborhood for the most needy NGO and found the “Dispensaire Intercommunautaire”,

and Sr. François-Marie was delighted to receive the monitor. Thank you so much Dr. Ramzi, God bless you

Outing with and for elderly

Today our elderly went on an outing to Rawda Restaurant. They really enjoyed it and had lots of fun. The meal was delicious.

A second Iftar today

A second Iftar was hosted today by Mr. and Mrs. Hani Al Sharif, not everybody came but we were able to sit down with the volunteers at the tables and engage in conversations.    Some of the members attended such as our founding president Maya Najjar, our treasurer Amal Al Sharif, Board member Elizabeth Batal, Arminee Choukassizian and last but not least, Bob Gallagher and his daughter Gabriele. We were about 45. Happy feast to all of you and thank you Mr. and Mrs. Hani Al Sharif!

First Iftar

This Monday we had our first Iftar hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Maged El Hoss, it was a success, 65 attended, of which 40 adults and 25 children. The atmosphere was very nice, children had their own entertainment and gathered together or pictures. There were also a couple of elderly christians with them. This co-existence is one of Ayadina’s characteristics and we are proud of it.

September and children’s program

There we are again, ready to start this new school year. We hope this year “Ayadina’s center for Fine and Performing Arts” will have many happy children, developing their talents. We therefore met with most of the teachers yesterday evening in order to set goals and make agreements.

It was definitely good to see each other, as you can see.

We also have a WISHLISTfor this year and in all simplicity put it here. If someone wants to donate an item, just contact us.

- Cassete player – CD player (3)

- A drama assistant

- Projector overhead to be used to correct essays

- Percussion instruments in particular “carillon”

- File cabinets and appropriate folders to file art work

- Boards appropriate to hang art work all around the center

Awaiting your feedback :)
